The Smiling Genius
Really an excellent column about a composer that was admired by his contemporaries but is not extensively studied in modern times. Friends with Debussy, Strauss, Stravinsky, Ravel, Monet, and Manet, this man was known for his ability to write beautiful music and spread good cheer. Definitely too rare these days, in my opinion! Click here to hear his Espana conducted by Leibowitz and performed by the Orchestra Filarmonica di Roma.
